Winter produce guide: August

In less than two weeks, we’ll be into the final month of winter in Australia.

Winter has, this year so far, proved to be one of the colder ones experienced throughout multiple states and territories. But despite some more pronounced low temperatures, most of the typical fruits and vegetables that are in-season during this time are still in good supply.

Fruits

Many of your favourites, such as apples, oranges and strawberries are all in-season in August. So there are plenty of fruit salads and/or fruit smoothies to go around for those who want them.

  • Apples
  • Cumquat
  • Grapefruit
  • Kiwifruit
  • Lemons
  • Mandarins
  • Nashi
  • Oranges; particularly Naval and Blood
  • Pomelo

  • Tangelo

Vegetables

There’s even more to choose from when it comes to vegetables, with more or less the same number of vegetables in-season in August as in July, though there are a couple of differences. Still, you’ll be able to put together some hearty meals for the month, which is of particular benefit during the colder months.

  • Beetroot
  • Broccoli
  • Brussels sprouts
  • Cabbage
  • Carrots
  • Cauliflower
  • Celeriac
  • Celery
